February 2006: identrica’s phone-based user authentication system was granted a UK patent on 15 February 2006. International applications are in progress.
identrica Technical Director Doug MCracken, who invented the system in 2002, is delighted: "It's good to know that we now have this formal protection in place. It took a while, and quite a bit of effort and money, to get through all the procedures – but it's been worthwhile now we've got the result!”
The company has applications in progress in all major international markets. "These give us protection even though they haven't yet been granted," explains McCracken. "We have what’s called a 'priority date' in May 2003, and when the patents are eventually granted they will run from then."
