25 April 2006: Authentication specialist identrica today announced a version of its two-factor authentication specifically developed for Outlook Web Access.
Microsoft Exchange and Outlook are the world's most widely-deployed e-mail server application. As demand for home and mobile working increases, Outlook Web Access leverages companies' existing investment by making Outlook accessible from any machine with a web browser, without the need for a VPN. Now identrica's simple two-factor authentication makes Outlook Web Access not only convenient, but secure.
"Web Access allows remote access to highly sensitive information, not only in e-mails but throughout the whole Exchange environment," says identrica CTO Doug McCracken. "This calls for better security than a simple username and password, but until now there has been no easy way of implementing strong two-factor authentication. identrica for Outlook Web Access solves the problem."
The system uses a software module which is fully integrated with Active Directory and Microsoft's Exchange Server, so implementation is fast and simple - typically less than one hour. All users need to do is make a short, unanswered phone call as part of the log-on process. There are no tokens, smartcards, SMS messages or one-time-passwords - so administration is minimal and users like it.
identrica is completely scalable and highly flexible: for example users can have two or more phone numbers registered to them so that they can authenticate using their mobile, their home landline or their PDA.
